History

Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society, founded on December 8, 1993, by seven alumni members of the nursing department of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, holds a significant place in the history of nursing organizations in the Philippines. It was the first Greek-letter nursing organization established in the country, symbolizing a lifelong commitment to friendship and professional development. With a firm belief in promoting a sense of unity and perpetuity, Beta Nu Delta sets itself apart by adhering to specific principles while steering clear of hazing and embracing a potential student-alumni involvement continuum.

In 2008, Beta Nu Delta adopted its official coat of arms and color, which represent the organization's values and aspirations. The coat of arms features the raised initials ΒΝΔ, representing the cardinal virtues of knowledge, caring, and excellence. The heptagon represents the seven founding members, while the caduceus symbolizes the nursing profession. The Celtic Cross signifies the Christian roots of the nursing profession and the Christian orientation of the founding members, and the circle represents unity and perpetuity. The color blue, signifying truth, reflects the organization's commitment to upholding honesty and integrity in all endeavors. The motto "Vita Donum Dei" reminds members that life is a precious gift from God.

Florence Nightingale, renowned as the pioneer of modern nursing, and St. Camillus de Lellis, the patron saint of nurses, serve as the Society's patrons. Their legacies inspire Beta Nu Delta members to uphold the highest standards of care and compassion in their nursing practice.

One distinguishing feature of Beta Nu Delta is its transparency. As a non-secret organization, it does not have hidden symbols or secretive programs. The Society's activities and initiatives are open to the public, fostering inclusivity and collaboration within the nursing community.
