Erlyn Rachelle Macarayan, RN, PhD

Erlyn Rachelle Macarayan, RN, PhD is a research fellow working with the Primary Health Care program at Ariadne Labs and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health working with the Lancet Commission on High Quality Health Systems. Her work focuses on data analytics and manuscript generation in the areas of quality of care, primary health care, and health systems research.

Prior to joining Harvard, Lyn recently completed her 1st year of postdoctoral research in epidemiology at Yale University Center for Infectious Disease Modeling and Analysis, where her work focused on strengthening health systems to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases. She earned a PhD in health systems monitoring and evaluation at the University of Queensland in Australia and a Masters in Health and Social Sciences at the De La Salle University in the Philippines. 

She worked as a consultant at the Gavi Vaccine Alliance in Switzerland and with the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Denmark, as well as a presidential policy officer for the Office of the President in the Philippines. Lyn is an alumna of the University of Santo Tomas for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

Nita Jane Carrington, EdD, RN, ANP, MSN, MBA, MPA

Nita Carrington
Nita Jane Carrington is an Emiritus Professor of Nursing within the College of Nursing & Health SciencesHawaii Pacific University. She is the Editor-in- Chief of the Singapore-based Journal of Nursing, Health Care, Global Science Technology Forum from 2013 to the present.

In 2016, she was nominated for Daisy Award (for Nursing Faculty) by the Hawaii Pacific University's College of Health Society.

In February 2018, she served as a keynote speaker at the International Nursing Conference: Transforming Healthcare: Exploring the Current Challenges and Possibilities in Nursing held in Hawaii.  She served as an adviser of the Philippine Nurses Association of America-Hawaii Chapter from 2014 to 2016.

She holds membership with the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP),  American Nurses Association (ANA), Hawaii Nurses Association (HNA), Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.


Arnel Salgado, RN, Ed.D., D.Sc.

Dr. Arnel Banaga Salgado is a psychologist, a licensed teacher and a registered nurse. He earned his nursing qualifications (B.Sc. Nursing), his Master of Arts in Nursing (MAN) and his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degrees from the Philippines. He practiced as a bedside nurse, as a clinical instructor, lecturer, associate professor and eventually as a chief nurse and college administrator. He is licensed and qualified to practice in the Philippines (Roll No. 0228576), Malaysia (TPC No. T3394) and the United Arab Emirates (RN010205). At the start of his career as a young nurse, Dr. Arnel took this graduate studies in nursing education majoring in Medical-Surgical Nursing with sub-specialization in Neurologic Disorders which he finished and eventually awarded his certificate in teaching  (MA Education) from the Saint Louis University, Baguio City. Few years after finishing his certificate in teaching, Dr. Arnel decided to try another field, this time in Psychiatric Nursing and Psychology that he practices until now.

          Dr. Arnel has a multifaceted expertise in the field of nursing, mental health, teaching and learning, psychology and education. He was trained and certified as a psychiatric nurse instructor by the National Center of Mental Health (NCMH) when he started his teaching career in the Philippines. Since then, his line of practice both in the nursing service and nursing education is on Mental Health & Psychiatric Nursing. He taught for over twenty-two years various courses in Nursing, Leadership & Management, Mental Health & Psychiatric Nursing and Care of Patients with CNS Disorders and Psychology & Behavioral Sciences (also for the College of Medicine and Dentistry). He also supervises thesis and dissertations on mental health in both degree and graduate degree programs in several colleges and universities.

          Because of his commitment to develop and improve his mental health practice, he got his short term education and courses on mental health (MN Psychiatric Nursing) from the University of the Philippines - Manila (UP-Manila) and the Pontifical University of Santo Tomas (MAN Psychiatric Nursing. Eventually he completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology (equivalent to Master of Arts in Teaching) from the premiere university for teachers in the Philippines, the Philippine Normal University (PNU). Since then he was involved with the development of psychosocial nursing interventions, indigenization of psychometric tests, and textbook writing. His thesis and dissertations (Master of Arts in Nursing and Doctor of Education) are all focused on psychometric tests development for adolescents, nursing students and other health professionals.

 As an educator, Dr. Arnel is always involved in various committees such as: Teaching and Learning, Student Affairs, Research, Examination and Vetting as well as Faculty Development. Lately, he is nominated to become a member of the RAKMHSU Center for Educational Decvelopment and Research (CEDAR). Dr. Arnel always carries out all his tasks with high degree of enthusiasm and excellence. 

          As a published puthor, he wrote several books that include Psychology for Nurses published by McGraw-Hill Education and contributed on writing the Philippine contents for the Oxford Handbook of Nursing and Midwifery series. Dr. Arnel is a lifetime member of the Philippine Nurses association (PNA), the East Asia Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS), Association of Deans of the Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADPCN) and Association of Nursing Service Administration of the Philippines (ANSAP). He has presented research papers at national and international conferences held at Silliman University in the Philippines, Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan and other places. Dr. Arnel is also a school psychologist and a board certified teacher. Currently, he is serving as Editorial Board member in several peer reviewed international journals and book publishers.

          Because of his commitment to help in the improvement of himself professionally, he continued his post-doctoral studies eventually earning him a Certificate in Health Informatics from with Distinction from the Health Institute of Informatics at De La Salle University – Manila. He is also training to be a cognitive behavioral therapist, hypnotherapist and special education needs and disability (SEND) specialist. In 2016, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Psychology by research, and in July 2017, Dr. Arnel was awarded his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D. - Summa Cum Laude) by the St. James the Elder University, Florida, USA. The Doctor of Psychology degree awarded to Dr. Arnel qualifies him to become a psychotherapist.

          Dr. Arnel as an existentialist from the beginning of his career, he is credited as the founder of Functional Emotive Existential Therapy. On June 27, 2016, he was admitted as a full voting member of the American Psychological Association (APA) with membership on various APA Divisions. On September 10, 2016, he was also invited to join and eventually inducted to the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). Currently, he is serving as a member of STTI Technology Committee.
