Sulu State picks Dr. Charisma Ututalum as new president

The Board of Trustees of Sulu State College has recently appointed Charisma Samparani Ututalum RN, EdD as the college's incoming president.

When asked about her initial reaction upon hearing her appointment: "Tears showered down my face because this journey to this presidency was not easy", according to Dr. Charisma. "I almost gave up but as I have looked at our students and our faculty they gave me hope to fight and finally I ended up on my seat as president".

"We have known Dr. Charism for the last four years and respect her wisdom and insight immensely. She is a brillian synthesizer. She demonstrates depth and breadth that are greatly needed in the field of nursing and higher education", according to Joseph Andrew Pepito, Senior Executive Officer of Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society of which Dr. Charisma is an ardent member.

Indeed she is ripe for an important post with a strong educational and working backgroun. Dr. Charisma gained her Doctor of Education major in Educational Management (2009), Masters in Public Administration (2002) at Sulu State College, and her BS in Nursing and Masters Degrees in Nursing at the Ateneo De University, Zamboanga City. She also received her Master in Development Management (MDM) degree from Asian Institute of Management.

Her management skills spread from being the Chief Nurse of Sulu Sanitarium (2004-2005) to Dean of the College of Nursing (2005-2012) and Vice President of Sulu State College (2012-2014). She is frequently invited to various lectures, symposia, as a resource speaker on stress, VAWC and leadership. 

Jerome Babate, the Society's president said on Dr. Charisma's appointment: "It would be a great joy for us to see this talented woman in a position which would allow her to share her great gifts with others."
