Dr. Daisy Palompon, Professor and Vice-President of Cebu Normal University, is being honoured for her expertise as an educator in Gerontological Nursing by the world’s foremost gerontological nursing organization, National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence.

“This recognition is an incredible honor,” said Palompon. “I am blessed that I get to work in areas that I am passionate about: education, nursing, and improving outcomes of older adults through education, service, and scholarship. I feel privileged to work at CNU, where my work is supported by my colleagues, and administrators,” she said.

The rapid increase in the aging population has made it apparent how critical knowledgeable instructors are when preparing gerontology nurses for the workforce.  The Distinguished Educator in Gerontological Nursing Program is a National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) Recognition Program that aims to highlight the nurse educator leaders working with students, faculty, providers, and older people in various settings.

Dr. Palompon’s research focuses on improving nursing practice with older people, with a simultaneous focus on nursing education.

“Dr. Palompon’s contributions in gerontological nursing in the Philippines are remarkable. We are very proud that she’s a Nurse Educator Fellow,” according to Dr. Rudolf Martinez, assistant professor of San Beda University's College of Nursing and chairperson of Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society.

She holds membership with Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society, Philippine Nurses Association, among others.

Dr. Palompon continues to teach nursing courses and older adult nursing courses at the graduate programs of Cebu Normal University. She received her award at the NHCGNE Leadership Conference in Austin, Texas last 12-13 November 2019.
