Jurado Receives New Jersey's STTI Award

 Leo Felix Jurado, Ph.D, RN, FAAN recently received  the Honor Society of Nursing's, Mary Anne Rooney Essence of Nursing Award presented by New Jersey Consortium Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), the nursing honor society.  He has earned this prestigious award for his exemplary leadership and mentorship to others in the profession of nursing.

Dr. Jurado is currently an associate professor of nursing at William Paterson University, and an adviser of the Filipino Nursing Diaspora Network.

In addition to this accomplishment, Jurado is a nurse educator, nurse administrator, advanced practice nurse, and community leader with three decades of professional nursing experience. He has served as president of the New Jersey Board of Nursing, president of the Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey, and president of the Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA), and currently serves on that organization’s board as a Parliamentarian. He has received numerous awards that recognize his leadership and expertise in nursing education including the Nursing Excellence Award in Education from the New Jersey State Nurses Association and the DON exceptional leadership award from the Institute of Nursing. His research interests include foreign-educated nurses, health care disparities, men in nursing, and men’s health. He holds membership with the Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, among others.

The Mary Anne Rooney Essence of Nursing Award, named in memory of a nurse leader, is given to an individual who demonstrates special interest and guidance to a colleague or a student. Those honored share resources with their mentees for their professional growth and development. This sustained mentoring relationship fosters talent, and develops nurse leaders through a personal connection of caring, inspiration, and encouragement to accomplish these goals.
