This year's theme of the Florence Nightingale International Nurses Day (FNIND) dovetailed on "Nurses: A Voice to Lead - Achieving Sustainable Development Goals" and the event happened on 17 June 2017 at the Tandang Sora Hall of Cebu Normal University.

The keynote speaker was the current national chairperson of the Philippine Nurses Association (Dr. Elsie Tee) who reflected on the contribution made by nurses and midwives, so that they can optimize their contribution to the 17 SDGs. As of 1 January 2016, the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) became the focus of global efforts on a wide range of development agenda. The SDGs have subsumed the work of the UN millennium development goals (MDGs).

Invited guests to this event were the PNA 7 Regional Governor (Dr. Marylou Ong); dean of the university's college of nursing (Dr. Jezyl Cutamora); the chapter president of the Philippine Nursing Research Society (Dr. Allan Amparado); the research director of the University of the Visayas (Dr. Brian Vasquez) -- all of whom have shared their insights to the nursing community during the townhall meeting segment.

A significant number of participants including nursing faculty members, hospital administrators and officers, graduate students and undergraduates have graced the occasion.

This event is a collaboration among Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society, Global Pinoy Nursing, Nursing for Humanity, Philippine Nurses Association Region 7, University of the Visayas and Cebu Normal University. MJB Southern Consulting serves as the event manager.
