2012 Year End Message

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It has been a big year for Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society, but even as the year draws to a close, our members have been busy as ever working all over the globe to ensure our world is cared for.

Our members actively took part in the only international nursing event in the Philippines this year -- 2nd International Qualitative Conference in Nursing and Health Research. They presented papers. They judged posters. Dr Nino Locsin was responsible in part in this conference. With his connection, he brought along qualitative research experts in town. Amazing resources...

Of course, they were active in various international nursing events all over the globe.

Our membership intake is so successful this year with outstanding individuals joining our Society which is led by Luz Porter, RN, Ph.D, FAAN (Florida Atlantic University) and Lorraine Evangelista, RN, Ph.D, FAAN (UC Irvine).

Our international nursing book donation project gave us 2 "Balikbayan" boxes for distribution to nursing schools (University of Southern Mindanao, ND Tacurong College, Mindanao State University-Marawi, Notre Dame University, St. Alexius College, Davao Oriental State College, UP Koronadal) in Mindanao and Luzon. Dr Edward Cruz generously took time to pack all these stuffs. Edward, you are one in a million. Let us thank Dennis Amando and Benj Pulido for collaborating the book distributions.

Our global health fellowship project partnership with the Missouri State University College of Nursing was a pioneering effort and deserved our gratitude. Thank you, Dr Faye Felicilda.

Dr Cindy Leigh had 3 circuit lectures in Mindanao in November spanning 3 days and 300 kilometers of travel around Central Mindanao. Kudos Dr. Leigh. We hope to see you again down south next year in time for your sabbatical.

True to our commitment to ethical research, our institutional review board which is made of myself, Dr Joel Patalagsa and Raymund Ang are literally doing our fair share of review. Indeed, a good start. However, we will miss Dr Joel as he landed a good job at the King Saud University College of Nursing early this month. He will remain in advisory role though. Thanks Raymund.

Rudolf Martinez appeared to be the busy guy in the BND world. He organized a seminar workshops with Arellano University, he inducted and subsequently, set up the Negros chapter, and actively judged the posters awards in the mentioned international conference. He did it while finishing his dissertation at Asian Social Institute.

Our usual supporters--Dr Rose Constantino and Darlene Borromeo -- provided the necessary morale boost. Rose pledged in for her REBC Partnership and Darlene was exploring community health projects for 2013 in tandem with BND.

The Gensan chapter led by Mairelle Paje, Mai Yumang, and others are off for a pretty good start in the year.

As always, keep an eye on our web page for all the latest, and if you've got news or views, we'd love to hear from you.

A few thoughts with which to leave you...

As we enter the New Year, many of us make resolutions; let's all be proud of nursing and the Filipino nurses' contribution. We leave you for the year now with a few quotes on nursing from our colleagues, all worth a thought.

I attribute my success to this--I never gave or took any excuse (Florence Nightingale)
The character of the nurse is as important as the knowledge she possesses (Carolyn Jarvis))
Our job as nurses is to cushion the sorrow and celebrate the joy every day, while we are just doing our jobs (Christine Belle)

To all,  a caring and happy New Year!

We care,

Faustino Jerome Babate
National President
