Violeta Lopez is BND's International Research Excellence Awardee

Today, the Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society gave its first international research award during the 1st Mindanao International Nursing Seminar held at DPT Building, University of Mindanao, Matina Campus, Davao City, Philippines.

The nomination paper reads:

"The Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society's International Research Excellence Award is awarded to a Filipino nurse whose sustained program of research has made a significant impact on knowledge development with recognizable benefit for nursing practice and healthcare. The scope of the award is international because the Society has done extensive search to Filipino nurses in the country and abroad. Our search has finally culminated and it finds Professor Violeta Lopez of the Australian National University to merit its first international award.

Indeed, her credentials speak for itself.

Dr Lopez is a prolific nurse researcher. She has written extensively, authoring over 55 journal articles and presented 62 conference papers. Currently Dr. Lopez serves as reviewer of leading international and national journals, to name them: Journal of Psychosomatic Research, American Journal of Infection Control, Medical Decision Making, Quality of Life Research, European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, International Journal of Nursing Studies, British Journal of Cardiac Nursing, Journal of Transcultural Nursing, Research in Nursing and Health, Journal of Advanced Nursing, Hong Kong Nursing Journal, Evidence-based Nursing Journal, International Journal of Nursing Practice, Journal of Clinical Nursing, International Journal of Disability, Development and Education, Journal of Advanced Nursing, Western Journal of Nursing Research, Australian Critical Care Journal, and Contemporary Nurse

She also serves in the International Editorial Board for the following journals: Research in Nursing and Health, Transcultural Nursing Journal, Advancing Clinical Practice Journal, Integration: Research & Practice Journal

Dr. Lopez is also an editor of the following publications: Transcultural National Network, Royal College of Nursing Australia, Hong Kong Association of Critical Care Nurses (1999 to 2005), Hong Kong Society for Nursing Education (2002 to 2005), The NSN News: Official newsletter of the Nethersole School of Nursing (2005).

She is also an Associate Editor of Connect: the world of critical care nursing journal (2003 to 2008). Dr. Lopez is a research grant reviewer for public funded projects. She is also a book reviewer for Elsevier

Dr. Lopez is a research grant reviewer and book reviewer for Elsevier.

In the last two decades, she is part of many externally funded research projects in many countries attracting grants valued at more than 1 million dollars.

An important milestone in her research career is supervising 16 masteral dissertation and 11 PhD theses.

While all these record-breaking feat were made outside her home country, nevertheless, the award giving entity -- Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society -- deems that her contribution bodes well to the Philippines."

In her acceptance speech, she said that she "will endeavor to contribute fully towards the development of nursing research in the Philippines".

Last year, Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society inducted Dr. Lopez as its honorary member.
