2008 Florence Nightingale International Nurses Day

The Philippine Nurses Association, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University Nursing Alumni Association and the Philippine Nursing Student Association have jointly organized the 2008 Florence Nightingale International Nurses Day today -- 10 March 2008 -- with no less than 350 students and nursing professionals in attendance at the Auditorium of the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University.


Liz G. Nolasco, RN MAN delivered an IV Therapy updates for the professional nurses session while Prof. Joana Grace B. Lapore gave a lecture on servant leadership in the nursing profession. Both lecturers received nice reviews from their respective audience.


Prof. Violeta Lopez, RN RM MNA MAT PhD FRCNA keynoted the event where she presented general issue of primary health care in international and Australian contexts.





The student members of the Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society gave a token of appreciation in the form of charcoal painting to the keynote speaker.


Likewise, the Silver Nightingale Awards were given to Prof. Charito Jocame, RN MAN (the current dean of the Doctors School Foundation School of Nursing in Koronadal City, South Cotabato); Edna Peralta, RN (the distric nurse supervisor of the Department of Education in General Santos City), and Josefina Mosqueda, RN (the public health supervising specialist at LGU Sarangani Province and presently, the Sarangani chapter president of the Philippine Nurses Association).


The IND chairperson, Prof. Lodar Escobillo, RN MAN was a recipient of the academic achievement award after accomplishing her MA in Nursing degree recently from the Graduate School Center of the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University.


Capping the event was a closing remarks made by Leah Berango, RN (the General Santos City chapter president of the Philippine Nurses Association).

She finally thanked the members of the organizing groups which composed of Marge Yaphockun (Philippine Nursing Student Association), Mai Yumang (Alpha Chapter of the Beta Nu Delta Nursing Society), Ma Antoniette Edris (General Santos Doctors Medical School Foundation), Joan Sienes and Janet Alcala (both of the St. Elizabeth Hospital), Juna Bolleser (SOCSARGEN County Hospital), FJ Babate (Notre Dame of Dadiangas University Nursing Alumni Association) and Maela Babate and Kranz Espartero (both of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University)
